Welcome to the Britannia neighbourhood in Ottawa!

Britannia is a small yet quaint community located on the west end of Ottawa proper.  The area is also known as Britannia Village or Britannia Bay and includes a group of neighbourhoods that vary from well-established homes near the beach and high rise apartments in the more dense area near the city. The Britannia neighbourhood has a mix of high and low income neighbourhoods, with homes available at different price points.  Britannia also has a large collection of old-fashioned cottages which are surrounded by the water, hills, and forest and live on today as adorable little bungalows.

Places to take kids in Britannia

Britannia is located near the water, with Britannia Bay to the west and the Ottawa River located to the north.  Britannia Beach, located on the Ottawa river, is a family friendly beach. The beach has grassy areas, shady areas and good number of picnic areas as well. The beach is a warm spot to frolic and play in the summer, a wonderful respite from hot summer temperatures.

Another great place to take kids is the Ottawa River Parkway, where you can run, bike, hike, or even ride on horseback across trails through the city.

The Britannia Mine Museum is a great place for kids to explore the history of mining in Canada.

Finally, Britannia Park is a secluded green space that expands to two beaches with a community theatre, tennis club, and a playground area.

Shopping locations in Britannia

Britannia has several great shopping centres nearby. One is Lincoln Fields Shopping Centre, which has a variety of food, technology, and other stores.  If you’re looking for groceries, Farm Boy has a great variety of foods including fresh produce and fruits. They also have foods that cater to various dietary needs including organic, gluten-free, and dairy-free foods. Rainbow Foods, located next door to Farm Boy, is a health-conscious grocery store that offers eco-friendly, healthy and wholesome foods.

Fitness centres and outdoor recreational sites

Britannia offers several locations for fitness enthusiasts. GoodLife Fitness is located on Queensview Drive and is equipped with a great variety of gym equipment. For budding gymnasts and those looking for a unique workout,  Starr Gymnastics and Fitness is a gymnastics gym that offers classes for children and teens. You can also rent out their space for kid’s parties and they have drop-in times for kids to play and learn.

Schools in Britannia

There are a few schools in the neighbourhood of Britannia. These include the International Academy Health Education. The school offers classes for adults in massage therapy, natural health sciences, and traditional Chinese medicine.  Britannia also has Regina Street Public School, a local elementary school. Woodroffe High School, located nearby is about 10 minutes drive from the Britannia area.
