Where is Kanata located?

Kanata is 22km from downtown Ottawa and is located southwest of the city in the Ottawa Valley.  The community has experienced a surge of growth in recent years, with many city dwellers flocking to this popular suburban neighbourhood.  Kanata is favorable in location, lying just west of the Green Belt and close to downtown Ottawa.  The main thoroughfare, called The Queensway, goes through the entire town and will connect you straight to the City Centre.

Great places to take the kids

Kanata is home to the Ottawa Senators hockey team that plays at the Canadian Tire Centre, which is located at 1000 Palladium Drive in Kanata. Kanata is also situated close by the Ottawa river, which provides an abundance of recreational opportunities. There are trails next to the river with places to swim, bike, hike, run, golf, and horseback ride.  Kids will love to go skating at the Kanata Recreation Complex which has a splash pad, a toboggan hill and two ice skating rinks.

Restaurants to check out in Kanata

Kanata hosts a variety of options for food and it’s not hard to find a great restaurant here!  Some of the top rated restaurants in Kanata are Ox Head, a Vietnamese restaurant that specializes in Asian cuisine and has exquisite spring rolls. Pesto’s Italian Delicatessen offers giant deli sandwiches and Italian food. Indian Punjabi Clay Oven features dazzling Indian food in an array of colors and smells that you’ve probably never seen before. If you’re looking for some great brews and European food, check out Central Bierhaus.  The lively tavern atmosphere will feel warm and inviting.

Best shopping centres in Kanata

Hazeldean Mall is an indoor shopping centre with a variety of shops and stores.  There are dog grooming shops, hair salons, jewelers, nail salons, and restaurants .  You can also visit Tanger Outlets located near the Canadian Tire Centre for name brand clothing stores. The Kanata Centrum Shopping Centre has a Walmart as well as several other smaller shops and restaurants.

Kanata Schools

There are a variety of schools available in Kanata, from English speaking to French speaking, Montesorri schools, and Catholic schools for preschool through 12th grade. Bridlewood Community is an English Public elementary school and École élémentaire catholique is a French Catholic school in the area.  Public high schools includes: A. Y. Jackson Secondary School, Earl of March Secondary School and West Carleton Secondary school.
